Crest recently received a helping hand from the Throckmorton-Riser Foundation in the form of a $20,398.70 donation. This donation was used to purchase 35 new desktop computers to replace existing desktops used by students district wide. Existing desktops were not compatible with the newest Windows operating system, Windows 11. Microsoft established an end-of-life date for Windows 10 of October 2025, meaning all existing desktops would need to be replaced within the next two fiscal years.

Apart from the benefits obtained by moving to Windows 11 compatible systems, this donation helped the district purchase computers that vastly outperformed their outgoing counterparts, meaning intensive applications like those included in Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc...) saw performance gains, leading to a higher quality of instruction and less time waiting. These applications are used all the time in the computer lab by classes within the district’s Graphics Design Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway. Classes within this pathway make things commonly seen and used around the district daily, including T-Shirt designs, posters, the school newsletter, and, as of recently, designs found on cups/mugs.

This generous donation from the Throckmorton-Riser Foundation, along with past donations from the Foundation, have helped maintain a modern set of learning tools for our students, for which we will always be grateful.
